A 39-year-old man died after being pulled from the waters of Lake Michigan near the "Playpen" and Ohio Street Beach, Chicago police said.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man died after being pulled from the waters of Lake Michigan near the "Playpen" downtown, Chicago police said.

The incident happened just after 4 p.m. Thursday near the 800 block of North Lake Shore Drive, in area of the lake near Ohio Street Beach downtown.

Police said a 39-year-old man was recovered from the water by a marine unit and was taken to a hospital in critical condition. He later died.

The man's name has not yet been released.

Chicago police are investigating the incident.
