Person missing after driving into Tinley Park pond; search underway

TINLEY PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- A person is missing after driving into a south suburban pond on Monday evening, officials said.

Village of Tinley Park officials said it happened at Vollmer Road and Odyssey Boulevard.

A car jumped the curb and ended up in the water. A bystander tried to get the driver out, but the car disappeared beneath the water quickly, officials said.

Chopper 7 was over the scene, where crews could be seen using a submersible to search for the missing person and car.

What caused the driver to lose control was not immediately clear, but strong storms swept through the area earlier Monday.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
