Driver missing after crashing into Tinley Park pond; car being recovered from water

TINLEY PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Crews are pulling a car from a south suburban pond after a driver crashed it into the water on Monday, officials said.

It was not immediately clear whether the driver, who has been missing for hours, is in the car.

Village of Tinley Park officials said the crash happened at Vollmer Road and Odyssey Boulevard.

A car jumped the curb and ended up in the water. A bystander tried to get the driver out, but the car disappeared beneath the water quickly, officials said.

Chopper 7 was over the scene, where crews could be seen using a submersible to search for the person and car.

What caused the driver to lose control was not immediately clear, but strong storms swept through the area earlier Monday.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
