CTA unveils new security plan after threat of funding cuts

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The CTA unveiled a new security plan in response to a directive from the Trump Administration to tighten up security or risk losing federal funding.

Elements of the plan include a 75% increase in monthly policing hours.

That includes more patrolling from both Chicago Police and Cook County Sheriff's Police.

The new plan also includes an expansion of the CTA's mental health outreach to connect people with social services and housing.

The transit authority highlighted its more collaboration with the Cook County State's Attorney and the U.S. Attorney when it comes to prosecuting crimes related to the CTA.

The Federal Transit Administration demanded a new security plan after a series of high-profile attacks on the CTA.

They include a November incident when Bethany MaGee was set on fire on a Blue Line train.

The FTA must now approve the plan.
