On The Red Carpet previews 'Dancing with the Stars' Season 35 and first-ever 'DWTS' Con
LOS ANGELES -- A new season of "Dancing with the Stars" is about to begin, and On The Red Carpet is celebrating with a special episode that looks ahead to Season 35, revisits favorite moments from years past and goes inside the first-ever "Dancing with the Stars" fan convention.
Season 35 of "Dancing with the Stars" premieres Tuesday, Sept. 15 on ABC and Disney+ with Julia Stiles, Jenna Dewan, Tatyana Ali, Taylor Hanson, Harry Shum Jr. and Jimmy Kimmel's sidekick Guillermo Rodriguez among the celebrity contestants.
"Give me all the glitter, all the fringed skirts. I'm excited for every single part of this journey," said Dewan, who stars in ABC's "The Rookie."
Rodriguez added, "We've done four rehearsals and my body is like going crazy."
Earlier this summer, the first-ever "Dancing with the Stars" Con included special appearances by many of the show's pro dancers and past champions.
"It's gonna feel very personal," Season 33 champion Joey Graziadei told On The Red Carpet about the convention. "I think that's what we're trying to accomplish here, is just making people feel that they're a part of this whole experience."
"There is a looser feel to it where it feels a little bit more accessible and just personal," said pro dancer Val Chmerkovskiy, whom we interviewed along with his wife and fellow pro dancer, Jenna Johnson.
"A reason why a lot of us wanted to do Con is we want [fans] to see us as humans," Johnson said. "I want to meet them as myself and let them get to know me."
In this new episode, you'll hear advice from five former "DWTS" champions for this season's competitors, see how a construction worker from Australia became the first fan to win a Mirrorball Trophy, and witness exclusive performances from the convention.
"This is quite amazing, I think, because you bring the whole 'Dancing with the Stars' experience to the fans," judge Bruno Tonioli said. "You know, they see us once a week on television for years and years and years and this is almost like a rock concert version of the show!"
