Frankfort mayor speaks out after village sees 2 deadly tragedies, allegations of racism in school
A prayer vigil is being organized on Friday at 7 p.m.
CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Village of Frankfort is dealing with two unthinkable deadly tragedies and allegations of racism at a high school, all in a weeks' time.

On Sept. 1, 2-year-old Barrett was allegedly killed by his mother Corie Walsh in the 22700-block of Brook Stone Court.
A judge granted prosecutors' petition to keep Corie Walsh in custody pending trial as she faces first-degree murder charges.

On Sept. 4, an "racist harassment" investigation began after Lincoln-Way East students students appeared to insult Homewood-Flossmoor High School fans at a football game.
Dozens of students walked out from Lincoln-Way East High School Wednesday. They were protesting two alleged racist incidents blamed on some of their classmates and staff.

On Sept. 8, 6-year-old Jenna Maenia died after being struck by a school bus in the 500-block of Aberdeen Road.
Her mother, Yvette Menias, said Jenna was a first grader at Grand Prairie Elementary School who loved spending time with friends and family.

The southwest suburb of 20,000 is coming together Friday, to support one another at a community prayer vigil.
Mayor Keith Ogle joined ABC7 to talk about how the community is reacting to the tragedies.
The vigil is taking place at Breidert Garden at at 432 W. Nebraska Street at 7 p.m.
"Frankfort, let's stand together. Let's pray together. Let's lift one another up," a flyer for the event says.
