Man killed in Dolton shooting, person in custody; father speaks out

DOLTON, Ill. (WLS) -- A person is in custody in connection with a deadly south suburban shooting, police said on Friday.

Dolton police said the shooting happened Thursday night in the 14100-block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Dolton. At least one person was killed.

A father spoke to ABC7 about his son, who was killed in the shooting.

Khapri Alston was shot and killed during an argument with a man outside on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, his father, Pastor Chenier Alston, said.

Pastor Alston has a church in Georgia, but was in the Chicago area Friday night. He says his son went to Thornwood High School and played pro basketball overseas, before retiring a few years ago.

Khapri Alston was a father of two children, a son and daughter. He leaves them behind, along with his mother, father and five siblings.

One person has been taken into custody, but police have not publicly identified the suspected shooter.

Police said the investigation is active and ongoing. Charges have not yet been filed.
