
EAST CHICAGO, Ind. (WLS) -- A suspect is shot as police were trying to catch them in East Chicago Tuesday, police said.
The shooting occurred at about 5:54 p.m. in the 5000-block of Melville Avenue.
Police said they were initially called to the area for a man that was grazed by a bullet.
As they were helping him, officers said they spotted the suspect in that shooting and went after him on foot.
A shooting occurred and the suspect was transported to St. Catherine Hospital in serious condition, police said.
A gun was recovered from the suspect, police said.
