Police said the shooting happened as Jessica Johnson and Edward Roscoe were driving in the 500- block of east 103rd Street on April 25, 2021.

Prosecutors said Johnson was behind the wheel when Roscoe shot her five times.

30-year-old Jessica Johnson of Gary, Indiana died from the shooting.

At the time of the shooting, Roscoe was out on bail for a gun case.

In December 2020, the couple's 4-month-old boy died of a skull fracture when Roscoe allegedly dropped him.

Prosecutors also said that Roscoe allegedly choked Johnson unconscious during a fight in front of their children.

He also pushed her to the ground that same day at a gas station and threatened to kill her.

In December 2021, Roscoe was arrested in Houston, Texas.

More than four years later, Roscoe pleaded guilty to one count of first-degree murder.

A judge sentenced him to 27 years.
