ELGIN, Ill. (WLS) -- A man has been charged with using a knife and a dumbbell to kill his ex-girlfriend in her west suburban home on Sunday, officials said.

The Kane County State's Attorney's Office, the Elgin Police Department, and the Kane County Coroner's Office released a joint statement about the alleged crime on Monday.

Officials said Christian B. Flores, a Kane County man who is experiencing homelessness, is charged with first-degree murder after 52-year-old Charity Geisel was found dead in her Elgin home on Sunday morning.

The discovery prompted a large police presence at Geisel's home in the 300-block of Princeton Avenue.

Preliminary autopsy findings indicate that Geisel died from blunt and sharp-force injuries due to an assault.

An Elgin police investigation led authorities to Flores in Indiana, where he was arrested on Sunday evening. He is being held in Indiana pending extradition to Illinois, and his first court date in Kane County has not yet been scheduled.

Authorities did not immediately provide additional information about the case.
