16-year-old boy dies after falling from abandoned building in Joliet: police

JOLIET, Ill. (WLS) -- A 16-year-old boy died early Sunday morning, after falling from an abandoned building in Joliet, police said Monday.

Police responded just before 1 a.m. to the area of Louise Ray Parkway east of Collins Street for a report of a person who had fallen from a nearby abandoned industrial building.

Police found a critically injured boy, who had reportedly fallen from an abandoned rock quarry structure.

Despite life-saving measures, the boy was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police found four boys who had been with the boy at the time of the incident and learned they were exploring the property.

Police said the boy fell about 100 feet through an opening in the structure.

The boys were taken to the Joliet Police Department, where they were interviewed and released to their parents, police said.

The Will County Coroner's Office will determine the boy's cause and manner of death.
