2 teens in custody for using pepper spray inside grocery stores, Evanston police

EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- Two teenagers were taken into police custody after spraying mace inside grocery stores on Monday.

Evanston police said the first incident happened at Jewel Osco at 1128 West Chicago Avenue.

Two teens, 16 and 17, walked into the store and sprayed mace or bear spray into the air, police said.

Shortly after, police said the teens did the same thing at the Whole Foods at 1640 W Chicago Avenue.

One person was taken to an area hospital.

Evanston police said both teens were taken into custody.

No other information was available.
