Police said Carpenter was found in the street and believe he was hit by a vehicle and dragged for some distance.

Investigators say the vehicle involved likely has front-end damage or broken lights.

Carpenter's relatives spoke out Wednesday as the investigation continues.

"Please turn yourself in," Carpenter's cousin Brian Frazier said. "If it was a mistake, it's a mistake, but please turn yourself in so we can get some closure for my family."
