SOUTH HOLLAND, Ill. (WLS) -- The family of a veteran killed in a south suburban hit-and-run crash is pleading for the driver to come forward.
Cornell Carpenter, 59, of South Holland was hit sometime Saturday night into Sunday morning in the 100-block of East 173rd Street near the railroad tracks and Babe Ruth baseball field in South Holland, police said.
Police said Carpenter was found in the street and believe he was hit by a vehicle and dragged for some distance.
Investigators say the vehicle involved likely has front-end damage or broken lights.
Carpenter's relatives spoke out Wednesday as the investigation continues.
"Please turn yourself in," Carpenter's cousin Brian Frazier said. "If it was a mistake, it's a mistake, but please turn yourself in so we can get some closure for my family."
