NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WLS) -- A federal mediator will assist contract negotiations between Naperville School District 203 and teachers who have threatened to go on strike.
Contract negotiations with a federal mediator are expected to resume Tuesday for some teachers threatening to strike in Naperville.
The school board president says the district is seeking an agreement that's fair to both teachers and taxpayers.
Educators rallied outside Naperville Central High School Monday ahead of a District 203 School Board meeting.
The district and union have been bargaining since February.
Last week teachers voted to authorize the ability to strike.
What continues to be debated by the union and district are teacher compensation and proposed school day change.
"We have the number one academically performing district as far as student performance goes as unit districts in the state of Illinois. Our compensation does not reflect that," Naperville Unit Education Association President Ross Berkley.said.
"The union's current proposal is simply not sustainable. If we were to accept their proposal, our board would have to make tough choices that would directly impact you and your families," said Naperville 203 Board President Charles Cush.
