Driver hospitalized after van collides with freight train in Dolton: officials

DOLTON, Ill. (WLS) -- A driver was hospitalized after his van collided with a freight train in the south suburbs on Monday night.

The crash happened in Dolton near East 142nd Street and Pennsylvania Avenue.

A Dolton spokesperson said the van's driver may have suffered a medical emergency before going through the barrier gates and colliding with the train.

The Dolton Fire Department extricated the driver and transported him to the University of Chicago Medical Center in an unknown condition.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information.
