Girl, 8, killed by lightning strike in LaSalle County, coroner's office says

LASALLE COUNTY, Ill. (WLS) -- An eight-year-old girl was killed after being struck by lightning last week, the LaSalle County Coroner's Office said.

The coroner's office said they were called to OSF St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ottawa on July 3.

The girl was struck by lightning in the backyard of her home in Serena.

The incident is under investigation by the coroner's office and the Lake County Sheriff's Office.
