It happened as the student was walking to school near Ellyn and Sheehan avenues around 7:30 a.m.

The student said the driver opened the passenger side door and asked if they wanted a ride. The student said "no" and told a parent, who called 911.

Police provided an update on the investigation on Saturday, saying there was no criminal intent behind the driver's actions.

"This incident involved a ride share driver and a language barrier between the driver and the child contributed to a misunderstanding that there may have been criminal intentions at play," the police department said in a statement."
