Monday, Indiana Governor Mike Braun and FEMA officials will tour communities across the state including Gary, meeting with the mayor and other local officials to assess storm recovery efforts.

Northwest Indiana is now deemed the site of a "major disaster." FEMA has been connecting with residents.

In Hobart agents at a mobile disaster center are helping homeowners apply for federal assistance.

Much of Gary was also without power for two weeks.

Several relief efforts have helped thousands of families get back on their feet.

"A lot of people suffered for like, 7, 8, 9, 10 days without power," Hammond resident Samantha Foster said.

"I just pray everyone learned a lesson from this to be prepared and if you're prepared, it won't be that hard," Gary resident Anito Shelby said.

The power is now back on, but cleanup is still very underway.

FEMA officials are expected to remain in northwest Indiana in the coming days.
