With Groundhog Day approaching February 2, Anderson Humane is highlighting Wanda, a groundhog ambassador helping educate the public about wildlife and conservation.
Representatives from the organization appeared on a morning television broadcast to discuss the origins of Groundhog Day and the folklore surrounding the groundhog's shadow, while emphasizing the real ecological role groundhogs play.
Wanda, who cannot be released into the wild, serves as an ambassador through educational programs for families and children, teaching wildlife awareness and safety.
Anderson Humane cares for more than 3,000 wild, orphaned, and injured animals each year and encourages the public to contact professionals if they encounter injured wildlife.
