2 in custody after manhunt in south suburbs

TINLEY PARK, Ill. (WLS) -- Two suspects are in custody after a manhunt in the south suburbs Monday morning, police said.

Matteson police said they received a 911 call about several people reportedly with guns acting suspiciously in a residential area along Central Avenue south of Vollmer Road.

The suspects were located by police and the suspects then fled in multiple vehicles, police said.

The vehicles were later found abandoned a short time later and two suspects were taken into custody, police said.

Video from Chopper7 showed the massive scene that took place with the Matteson Police Department and Will County sheriff deputies going into neighborhoods with k-9's looking for the suspects.

The Will County Sheriff's Office said a shelter-in-place order was in effect for the immediate area of Harlem Ave. and Vollmer Rd in Frankfort Square. The order was lifted later Monday morning.

One neighbor said he was on his way to work before quickly being told to go back home.

"We're still going to be here, I actually got called and said, Hey, we got to turn around, because all these cops around, we're just looking to, first the back neighborhood and then all up on here, because Vollmer Road, and they told us, just, basically, just stay out of the way. Kind of just go home," neighbor Aidan Millerick said. "It's definitely kind of worrying because, I mean, I live right over there, so, like, if I look out my back window, I'm seeing idiots with guns running around."

Further details were not immediately available.
