IDOT worker hospitalized after fatal south suburban crash on I-57: ISP

BLUE ISLAND, Ill. (WLS) -- A deadly south suburban crash involving an Illinois Department of Transportation vehicle impacted Interstate 57 traffic on Saturday morning, Illinois State Police said.

ISP said troopers responded to the crash on northbound I-57 at 127th Street around 4:45 a.m. That's near the Calumet River in Blue Island.

Investigators believe a passenger vehicle and an IDOT SUV had been involved in a crash and pulled over to the left shoulder, where another vehicle struck them.

One person was pronounced dead at a local hospital, ISP said. She was identified as Jocilyn Buckley, 27, of Oak Lawn by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

ISP said an IDOT worker was injured and hospitalized. Their condition was not immediately known.

Two northbound lanes were closed as the accident reconstruction team investigated. Traffic was getting by on the right shoulder before all lanes reopened around 9:30 a.m.

What led up to the crash was not immediately clear.
