BiG Great Lakes is creating a place of dignity, purpose and belonging for adults living with disabilities in northeastern Illinois.
Founded by Annette Cvengros, the nonprofit was inspired by her search for meaningful options for her own children after they aged out of school-based programs at 22. Cvengros said many families face a sudden lack of support once traditional services end.
BiG Great Lakes is modeled after similar communities in Texas and focuses on purposeful living, meaningful work and inclusion within a faith-based environment. The organization became the first out-of-state satellite of BiG in November 2021.
Cvengros said the goal is to fill a critical gap by offering adults with disabilities a community where they are valued and able to thrive.
