Man stabs wife to death, turns knife on himself in Joliet garage: police

JOLIET, Ill. (WLS) -- A man allegedly stabbed his wife to death before using the same knife to take his own life in a south suburban garage early Sunday morning, police said.

Joliet police said officers responded to a home in the 1100-block of Loren Drive around 5:15 a.m.

A family member had discovered the married couple unresponsive in the attached garage, police said.

Police said a "domestic-related confrontation" between the two, who lived together, began in the garage in the early morning hours.

Detectives believe the man, 50, stabbed the woman, 46, multiple times before turning the knife on himself.

The Will County Coroner's Office pronounced them both dead on the scene. Investigators recovered the knife.

The couple's two adult children and one juvenile child were at the home when officers arrived, but investigators say there is no indication that anyone other than the couple was involved in the incident.

There is no known threat to the public, police said. Officers and detectives conducted an extensive neighborhood canvass and continue to investigate.
