Rivera allegedly waved a gun at another motorist in La Grange before traveling to the grocery store in Western Springs, police said.

At about 1 p.m. Wednesday, Western Springs police asked the public to avoid the area of the Mariano's located at 4700 Gilbert Ave.

Chopper 7 was over the scene at 1:45 p.m.

Police were seen surrounding the building. Multiple officers were holding long guns outside near the back of the store.

At about 2:20 p.m. it appeared that customers were allowed to go back into the store, and some police began to clear the scene.

At 2:25 p.m. police said the store was open to the public.

"Western Springs Police are assisting the La Grange Police Department with an investigation stemming from an incident earlier this afternoon," police said.

Rivera will appear in court Friday.
