Chicago sets world record for most people to down shot of Malört at once

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A record attempt that could only be won in Chicago.

More than 1,000 people raised a glass in an attempt to become the largest group ever to down a shot of Malört in unison.

Malört is Chicago's local beskbrnnvi - a style of bitter, wormwood-based, Swedish schnapps.

The record was set on Sunday at 7:50 p.m. at Recess in the West Loop.

Dozens of bars from California to Maryland also tried to meet the record but failed.

Chicago won and will hold the title in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Governor JB Pritzker also showed up and poured some glasses for attendees.
