Woman found shot to death inside crashed car in Austin

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A man is facing several charges in connection with the December 2023 murder of a Lyft driver, Chicago police said on Friday.

The deadly shooting happened on the day after Christmas in the Austin neighborhood's 4800-block of West Thomas Street, police said. Officers initially responded to a crash around 8:45 p.m.

Responding officers found a vehicle that had hit two parked cars. Inside, they found 34-year-old Adriana Arocha-Duque in the driver's seat with a gunshot wound to the head.

Arocha-Duque was transported to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Family members said she drove for the rideshare app Lyft.

Nearly two years later, authorities arrested an 18-year-old man in connection with the shooting on Friday, police announced.

The suspect is facing 10 charges, including multiple related to murder and robbery. His identity has not been released since he was a juvenile when the shooting happened.
