Man dies after being found shot in crashed car in Palatine, police say

PALATINE, Ill. (WLS) -- A man died after being found shot in a car that had crashed into several parked vehicles in Palatine Monday night, Palatine police said.

Authorities responded at about 9:39 p.m. to the 1200-block of East Prairie Brook Drive.

Police found a 20-year-old man with a gunshot wound in the driver's seat of the crashed car.

The man was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

He has been identified as Kevin Koonce of Streamwood.

Police said there is not a known ongoing threat to the public, but the death is being investigated as a homicide.

North Rand Road was closed between Route 53 and Dundee Road for several hours.
