Google shares update on Thompson Center renovation plans, shares renderings
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Google is sharing a new update on renovations to the Thompson Center.
The latest announcement showcases Google's plans for the publicly accessible spaces within the Thompson Center.

Google has commissioned artist Sanford Biggers to create a 30-foot-tall public sculpture, honoring regional heritage, that's inspired by quilt patterns from Illinois and beyond.
The angular, winding sculpture will be composed of glazed terra cotta panels, different from the original glassy and rounded headquarters.
The reimagined soaring atrium and plaza will serve as a hub for community programming and cultural events, fully connected to the CTA, the company said.
Google said it's also supporting Chicago youth through a new partnership with After School Matters to commission a student-designed art piece for the retail concourse, and supporting A Better Chicago to help students thrive in school.
They're working on solidifying retail leasing as Google looks toward an official opening in 2028.
Google first announced its intention to buy the Thompson Center back in 2022.
It hopes the updated space will be a place with world-class art, innovative workspaces, direct access to six CTA "L" lines, a public plaza, and the iconic atrium.
