Metra trains running again after freight derailment

AURORA, Ill. (WLS) -- A freight train derailment has disrupted train service on the Metra BNSF Line Friday morning.

Metra says inbound and outbound service was halted near Route 59 in Aurora due to the derailment. Trains began running through the area again with residual delays shortly after 8 a.m.

BNSF said in a statement, "At approximately 5:24 CT Friday, three cars derailed from a train near West Eola, IL, affecting the main tracks. There were no injuries to the crew and there is no threat to the public. Main tracks one and two are back open. A team is working to clear the incident as quickly and as safely as possible and fully restore operations. The cause is under investigation."
