EVANSTON, Ill. (WLS) -- An event in Evanston is part of a nationwide campaign focused on bringing neighbors and law enforcement together in way that promotes and fosters community.

Family-friendly games and activities are set up outside of the Evanston Police Department near Lake and Elmwood, and there will food and entertainment.

It is essentially a block party with a wider mission. Organizers say the goal is simple: Strengthen police-community partnerships, connect neighbors, and help build safer, stronger communities.

It is an event that police departments put on every year across the country, They say every year, it holds great importance.

Dozens of people are expected to attend Evanston's event on Tuesday.

This is the first time in years that the Evanston Police Department has hosted this event right outside of its doors.

And the Evanston police chief is expected to be in the dunk tank.
