New Jersey man accused of attacking semi trucks with axe on I-80 in NW Indiana: police
HAMMOND, Ind. (WLS) -- A New Jersey man is accused of attacking at least two semi trucks with an axe in northwest Indiana Friday, Indiana State Police said.
Police said troopers responded about 4:30 p.m. Friday to the 1.9 mile marker on eastbound Interstate 80 in Hammond, near the Calumet Avenue overpass, for a report of a man attacking a semi truck with an axe.

A truck driver in the area said she saw a black car with Illinois plates driving erratically, brake-checking and cutting off semi trucks, while driving east.
She said the car stopped right in front of her, forcing her to come to a complete stop.
She said the driver then got out of the car, not wearing shoes, appearing irate and yelling incoherently. The truck driver said the car nearly backed into her, before the man got out with an axe.
She said the man damaged her truck with the axe before driving away.

About 20 minutes later, another truck driver said the man attacked a truck near the 5.4 mile marker on eastbound I-80, near the Cline Avenue overpass.
Indiana State Police spotted the suspect vehicle traveling east on I-80 and tried to pull it over, which started a chase.
When the car was stopped, Ivan Savych, 29, of New Jersey was uncooperative, police said.
An axe was found in the car, police said.
Savych has been take to Lake County Jail and charged with resisting law enforcement and criminal mischief, police said.
