No charges filed in deadly shooting near Lincoln Park bar, Cook County state's attorney says

CHICAGO (WLS) -- No charges will be filed in the deadly shooting near a Lincoln Park bar over the weekend, the Cook County state's attorney said Wednesday.

The deadly shooting happened Sunday at about 11:43 p.m. in the 2200-block of North Lincoln Avenue, according to police.

Malik McCorkle, 30, was shot in the head and died at Illinois Masonic Hospital, officials said.

Police said the shooting stemmed from a fight that broke out near a bar and someone fired shots at McCorkle.

Security camera video from a nearby business shows a large crowd gathered in the street, with several people holding guns before the shooting. More than a dozen shots were fired, according to authorities.

A suspect was taken into custody and a gun was recovered.

On Wednesday, the Cook County State's Attorney's Office said they would not be charging that person:

"After a thorough review, the CCSAO determined the available evidence is insufficient to support the filing of criminal charges."

On Tuesday, 43rd Ward Alderman Timmy Knudsen announced that Chicago police ordered The Dime bar to close immediately under a summary closure order.

He released a statement Wednesday that said, ''As the investigation is ongoing. I have faith and an expectation that the States Attorney will press charges and prosecute in full once the correct suspect has been found. My office urges anyone with evidence to send to Area Three Detectives. I by gratefully condolences to the family of Malik McCorkle, who was the 30 year old victim in this horrendous killing'.'
