
CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago is gearing up to celebrate America's 250th birthday and the South Side's newest crown jewel is celebrating 250 with a bang.
Valerie Jarrett, CEO of the Obama Foundation, joined ABC7 to talk about what's happening at the Obama Presidential Center.
"The Obama Presidential Center is a permanent home for hope and we will celebrate this historic milestone by shining the light on those who will continue to perfect our nation," Jarrett said. "Whether you come from down the block, across the city, or around the world, our new series will inspire visitors to shape a better future for all."
-The inaugural Art in Action talk on July 7 in the Elie Wiesel Auditorium, featuring world-renowned, Obama Presidential Center commissioned artist Mark Bradford.
-Live sets on the John Lewis Plaza by legendary DJs, DJ Lady D and Jesse De La Pena, to celebrate Chicago House Music on July 10.
- On July 17, the Center will host a symposium in the Forum Building and the Elie Wiesel Auditorium, co-curated with Eric Williams as part of The Silver Room's Sound System Block Party Weekend.
- Garden Gatherings will be hosted in the Eleanor Roosevelt Fruit and Vegetable Garden every other week from July 12 to September 20.
- For its first Movies on the Plaza experience on July 21, the Center will feature a sing-along screening of Hamilton.
-A special performance on July 27 by the Chicago Philharmonic as it brings Side by Side, its flagship community program, to the John Lewis Plaza.
- On August 4, community members and visitors are invited to join a karaoke celebration in honor of President Obama's birthday on the John Lewis Plaza.
- A celebration of Chicago's diverse food culture on August 22 with a panel, in the Elie Wiesel Auditorium,
