CHICAGO (WLS) -- Tuesday marks one year since the launch of "Operation Midway Blitz" across Chicago and the suburbs.

Cook County leaders shared details of the financial impact of the federal immigration enforcement.

Over the past year, there has been a sharp decline in spending by Latin American-born residents at local businesses.

The Great Cities Institute at the University of Illinois Chicago found the heightened enforcement cost Cook County $1.26 billion in retail and restaurant activity.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, more than 45,000 undocumented immigrants were detained as a result of the operation.
