Person of interest in custody after child grabbed, phone stolen in Palatine: police

PALATINE, Ill. (WLS) -- A person of interest was taken into custody Monday morning, in connection with a child being grabbed in the north suburbs, police said.

Palatine police said the person was taken into custody about 11:30 a.m. after a brief chase.

Palatine police said someone approached a child about 7 a.m. Monday in the 200-block of West Wood Street and grabbed the child. That person also took the child's phone, police said.

The child is safe, police said.

There was an increased police presence in the area during an investigation. Police were reviewing surveillance video, as well.

A man in his 20s, with a stubble beard, was described as a "subject" connected to the incident.
