Portage High School lockdown; police say no evidence of threat to safety

PORTAGE, Ind. (WLS) -- Portage High School was placed on lockdown on Wednesday due to a threatening phone call, police said.

At about 11 a.m. Porter County Central Communications Center received a call from an unknown person saying they had a gun and were outside the school.

Police said the caller said they intended to "commit a school shooting."

However, police said there was no evidence that it was a real threat.

At last check, the school remained lockdown. Police said they were outside other Portage Township Schools as a precaution.
