LYNWOOD, Ill. (WLS) -- A woman killed in a hit-and-run crash in the south suburbs Monday morning was on her way home from celebrating her own birthday, her family said.
The crash occurred at about 12:01 a.m. in the southbound lanes of Illinois Route 394 near Joe Orr Road in Lynwood.
The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman killed as Maryiah Ford, 20, of Sauk Village.
Police said a female pedestrian was struck and taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Her parents say she ran out of fuel and was walking to a gas station when she was hit.
She's the oldest of six children, and was hoping to become a nurse.
An investigation is underway to find who hit her and kept going.
