
CHICAGO (WLS) -- A woman is facing charges after stabbing a baby girl to death before jumping out of a window at a Southwest Side home on Friday morning, Chicago police said.
Police said the stabbing happened in the Gage Park neighborhood's 3000-block of West 59th Street around 7:20 a.m. Friday.
Tatiana Maxwell, 25, allegedly stabbed an infant girl inside a residence before jumping out of an upper-level window and suffering injuries, police said.
The baby was transported to Comer Children's Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was identified as Nyhnia Stovall.
Maxwell was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was stabilized. Police arrested her there.
No other injuries were reported, and police recovered a knife from the scene.
Maxwell has been charged with first-degree murder, police confirmed on Sunday.
Police did not immediately provide further information.
