Man charged in north suburban hit-and-run that killed woman

WINTHROP HARBOR, Ill. (WLS) -- A suspect is in custody in Colorado in connection with a deadly hit-and-run crash in Winthrop Harbor.

Shanna White, a 50-year-old Waukegan woman, was killed while walking in the 1400-block of Sheridan Road on Feb. 26 just after 11 p.m.

After an investigation, Winthrop Harbor police issued an arrest warrant for Travis Kern, of Wisconsin.

Kern turned himself in to the police department in Lakewood, Colorado on Sunday.

The victim's daughter told ABC7 us she helped track down the suspect using social media.

Kern is charged with two felonies, Crash with Injury/Death and Failure to Report a Crash Causing Death. He remains in custody in Colorado, pending extradition proceedings.
