The victim was fatally shot just after 1:30 p.m. at 1100 South Wood Street, which is a UIC parking structure. Police were seen on the third level of the Wood Street Parking Structure that afternoon.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Shawnquanice Q. Kimbrough, of Chicago. The child was not injured, investigators with UIC said.

Investigators also said the suspect, who had no affiliation with UIC, was later found dead. How they died was not immediately clear, and their identity was not immediately released.

Authorities did not immediately provide information on a possible motive for the shooting.

UIC has closed its investigation. In a statement, UIC officials said, "Our thoughts and condolences are with the woman's family and friends as they struggle with this devastating loss."

On the same day, another fatal shooting happened in the nearby White Castle lot, prompting a large police response.
