UNINCORPORATED LYONS TOWNSHIP, Ill. (WLS) -- A police officer shot a suspect who allegedly stabbed two people in the west suburbs on Monday night, officials said.
The Cook County Sheriff's Office said one of their officers responded to a domestic violence call at an apartment in the 6400-block of Joliet Road in unincorporated Lyons Township around 5:30 p.m. That's near the border of La Grange and Countryside.
The officer found a male suspect holding a female victim, who was bleeding, at knifepoint, the sheriff's office said. A second female victim was lying motionless and bleeding on the ground.
That's when the suspect began stabbing the victim again, and the officer fired shots, striking him, the sheriff's office said.
Both victims and the suspect, whose ages were not immediately known, were taken to local hospitals in unknown conditions.
Local police said there are road closures and a large police presence in the area.
Sheriff's police detectives are conducting a criminal investigation, and the Illinois State Police Public Integrity Task Force is investigating the officer-involved shooting.
Further information was not immediately available.
