

CHICAGO (WLS) -- The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation Thursday honored six officers and detectives who responded to a shooting that killed one of their own.
The shooting happened in April at Swedish Hospital.
John Bartholomew was killed after transporting a suspect.

Nelson Crespo was critically hurt.
"The response that followed demonstrated what Chicago police officers do so well every day under extraordinary circumstances," said Sandra Wortham, president of the Chicago Police Memorial Foundation Executive Board. "They respond quickly, bravely. They assess; they communicate. They work together to protect the residents of this city."
The Chicago Police Memorial Foundation recognized the first officers and detectives on the scene, as August Officers of the Month.
