PITTSBURGH -- Video shows the moment a woman in Pittsburgh escaped her ex-boyfriend, who police say kidnapped and assaulted her on Valentine's Day.
Officers were dispatched around 2 p.m. that day for a reported kidnapping and domestic assault.
The victim told officers that the altercation with her ex-boyfriend - identified as Kenneth M. Clarke - began when he allegedly struck her repeatedly.
Clarke allegedly tore out her lip ring, strangled her to the point that she nearly lost consciousness, and shoved her into a wall.
The victim also suffered a cut to her ear.
According to police, Clarke then dragged the victim by her hair, forced her into the driver's seat of a U-Haul van and drove away while holding scissors and threatening to kill her.
Police said the victim attempted to escape shortly after. Video obtained by ABC News shows the victim running away.
Clarke also tried to stab her with the scissors, cutting her pants and striking her buttocks, before the victim fled into a nearby store, according to investigators.
Clarke allegedly followed her inside before leaving in the van prior to officers' arrival.
The vehicle was later found after police issued a be-on-the-lookout alert.
Officers stopped the van after a brief chase, and Clarke was taken into custody and turned over to the Butler City Police Department.
Clarke is charged with kidnapping, aggravated assault, strangulation, terroristic threats and simple assault.
He has since been arraigned and is being held in on $250,000 bail.
