65-year-old woman killed in NW Side hit-and-run crash ID'd: officials

CHICAGO (WLS) -- A 65-year-old woman was killed in a hit-and-run crash in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on Sunday night, and a person of interest is in custody, Chicago police said.

The incident occurred at about 9:30 p.m. in the 3100-block of North Central Avenue.

Police said the woman was walking in the crosswalk when a red pickup truck struck the woman and fled southbound on Central Avenue.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified her as Minerva Martinez, of Chicago.

Video from the scene showed police investigating around a pickup matching the description of the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run. Police said the vehicle was recovered unoccupied.

A person of interest is in custody, police said.

No other injuries were reported, and the CPD Major Accident Investigations Unit is investigating.
