The assault happened on Sunday at about 7 a.m. in the 3600-block of Bryn Mawr Avenue, police said.

NEIU said the assault happened at The Nest student housing.

A 21-year-old woman said an unknown man sexually assaulted her.

She was taken to Swedish Memorial Hospital.

NEIU said "it is believed that the individuals involved are known to one another, that there was no forced entry."

It's unclear if the assault involved any students or university staff.

No other information was released.

A spokesperson for NEIU released the following statement:

"We recognize that incidents of this nature are deeply concerning. Support resources are available to all students, including confidential counseling services and assistance through the Dean of Students Office. Should any student feel threatened or unsafe, they should immediately report to the University Police."
