CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago has its fair share of races, but one event is very personal to us at ABC 7 Eyewitness News. The annual Jim Gibbons 5K Run and 3K Walk honors our late colleague and long-time reporter. Jim died in 1994 after battling leukemia.
The 20th annual Jim Gibbons run is on June 12 in Lincoln Park. Proceeds from the event benefit the Leukemia Research Foundation (LRF). The race is also holds personal meaning to former LRF Board Chair Andy Hanson, who is a 20-year leukemia survivor. Hanson came into our ABC 7 Eyewitness News studio to tell us how he overcame the odds, why supporting the cause is so important and how you can still sign up for the Jim Gibbons 5K.
