CHICAGO (WLS) -- ABC7 Eyewitness News kicks off its "Spirit of Giving - Help Fight Hunger" campaign on Monday with the Greater Chicago Food Depository and the Duke Classic Foundation.

It's an opportunity to share how viewers can help the many families living in the Chicago area that need assistance year-round.

Kate Maehr, Executive Director and CEO at the Greater Chicago Food Depository, said one in six people in Cook County is turning to a food pantry for help. She explained how far the public's donations can go.

Scott Woodruff, Co-Director of the Duke Classic Foundation - whose annual golf outing benefits local charities in the name of former ABC7 photographer Michael "Duke" Dukewich, presented a check for $18,000 to the depository in Duke's name.
