Report: Sky adding Nadia Rawlinson to ownership group

The WNBA's Chicago Sky are expected to announce an addition to their ownership group Friday, according to a report Thursday in the Chicago Sun-Times.



The Sky, who began play in the WNBA as an expansion franchise in 2006, are principally owned by Michael Alter, a Chicago native and president of the Alter Group, a real-estate development firm.




Nadia Rawlinson, a Silicon Valley executive, is joining the Sky's ownership group, the Sun-Times reported. As of Thursday evening, she is listed on the Sky's website as co-owner and operating chairman, joining principal owner Alter, owners Harvey Alter and John Rogers, and minority owner Margaret Stender.



Rawlinson is listed on the Board of Trustees for Save the Children and Stanford University.



The Sky won the 2021 WNBA championship and currently are in the midst of a free-agency period in which stars Candace Parker and Courtney Vandersloot are unrestricted free agents who have been considering moves to other teams.




The Sky have three other unrestricted free agents: Allie Quigley, who is Vandersloot's wife;Emma Meesseman, who was the 2019 WNBA Finals MVP while with the Washington Mystics;andAzura Stevens.



WNBA free agents can officially sign starting Feb. 1.
