CHICAGO (WLS) -- CTA Red Line riders experienced a scare early Thursday morning after debris struck their train.
A northbound train was stopped along the Dan Ryan Expressway at the 35th Street station around 5 a.m. after something struck it. Earlier reports said shots may have been fired at the train.
Chicago police, state troopers and Illinois Department of Transportation crews arrived at the scene to find out what happened. Shuttle buses were dispatched and Red Line trains ran single track to accommodate passengers during the investigations.
Investigators determined rocks or other debris were thrown or kicked up onto the train and made a loud noise that some people could have mistaken for gunfire.
No one was injured. Normal service resumed on the Red Line within the hour with some delays.
