CHICAGO (WLS) -- ABC7's Weekend Watch shines a spotlight on government activity.
After a stalemate over the Chicago budget nearly two years ago, the City Council Office of Financial Analysis was created to provide independent oversight at City Hall.
It is meant to help the city council make decisions affecting the city's budget and financial affairs.
But a report by the Office of Inspector General found that COFA is not doing the job it was designed to do.
The inspector general's office found that the department has not consistently provided independent financial analysis to the council.
The Better Government Association's Alex Nitkin joined ABC7 to discuss on Saturday morning.
ABC7 reached out to COFA for comment on this report but did not immediately hear back.
