CHICAGO (WLS) -- ABC7's "Weekend Watch" shines a spotlight on government activity.
This week, tickets for the Obama Presidential Center museum went on sale.
And while many are excited for the grand opening, people in low-income housing in the surrounding neighborhood of Woodlawn are wondering if they will have a place to live.
Despite rolling out an extensive program in 2020, an Illinois Answers investigation found the city is failing to protect people from displacement.
Developers have been turning affordable multifamily units into expensive single-family homes. It's driving up rent and housing prices in that area.
Sidnee King Pineda from the Illinois Answers Project joined ABC7 to discuss on Saturday morning.
The Chicago Department of Housing said in a response, in part, "DOH has been preparing to stand up the working group since February, with the first meeting taking place April 1 and five more planned. With five years of program data available, the group will be able to evaluate outcome, areas of improvement, and how current market conditions factor into this work. The expectation is that the meetings will produce actionable recommendations from community stakeholders to strengthen program delivery, improve feasibility, and support long-term housing stability in Woodlawn."
